Our Board of Directors is composed of the Chair, Treasurer, and three committees: the Mentor/Executive Committee, Education Committee, and Fundraising Committee.
Chair
The Chair provides overall leadership and oversight for the organization, ensuring it operates effectively and remains aligned with its goals and responsibilities. They directly support the board committees, tri-campus executive teams, and mentors as needed, as well as, coordinate board meetings and maintain meeting records. Lastly, the chair ensures school partnerships remain strong, active, and well-supported.
Treasurer
The Treasurer oversees the organization's financial management, ensuring its resources are managed responsibly and transparently. They lead the fundraising committee, oversee the budget and financial reporting, monitor the organization's financial performance, and safeguard its assets. The Treasurer also liaises with external accountants, financial institutions, and regulatory agencies, while supporting long-term financial planning and ensuring compliance with all financial and tax obligations.
Mentor/Executive Committee
The Mentor/Executive Committee supports the development and success of the organization's executive team by providing guidance, mentorship, and oversight. The committee oversees the recruitment, selection, and training of Campus Directors, facilitates leadership development and board retreats, and serves as a resource for resolving conflicts and addressing executive inquiries. It also manages relationships with teacher candidates and university partners, while regularly reviewing executive roles and responsibilities to ensure effective leadership across the organization.
Education Committee
The Education Committee provides oversight for the organization's educational programming and school partnerships. The committee reviews and supports the development of the curriculum and festival materials to ensure they are age-appropriate, high quality, and aligned with budget requirements. It also oversees school recruitment strategies, supports the growth of partnerships with schools, responds to executive inquiries, and regularly reviews executive roles and responsibilities to promote continuous improvement.
Fundraising Committee
The Fundraising Committee oversees the organization's fundraising and financial sustainability by providing strategic guidance and support to the fundraising team. The committee monitors the annual budget, oversees grant writing and donor initiatives, and supports the management of in-kind contributions, donations, and grants. It also helps oversee fundraising initiatives, including merch, the Peace Ball, and other revenue-generating campaigns, ensuring they align with the organization's goals and fundraising strategy. Additionally, the committee leads the training and development of Fundraising Directors, responds to executive inquiries, and regularly reviews executive roles and responsibilities to ensure the committee operates effectively.
Executive Members
The executive members are post-secondary students who have participated in Peace by PEACE as mentors. They are the leaders of the organization, helping to shape future generations of mentors who will teach in our partner schools. The organization has a variety of executive roles, each responsible for a different aspect of the organization. These responsibilities include recruiting mentors, reviewing curriculum and festival materials, and identifying partner organizations for fundraising initiatives.
Mentors
Mentors are post-secondary students who are the heart of Peace by PEACE. Over 10 weeks from January to March, they visit Grade 4 to 6 classrooms across the GTA to teach our curriculum and festival to elementary school students.
